"The time is coming."
The council member said to all those who were gathered at this meeting held in secret. He looked around at all the cloaked figures in the room and nodded to himself as he the slight twitch run through them all. He knew that was the admission he would get to them being on his side but no matter he had won them over.
"I suggest, councilor that you provide more evidence of this stipulation before we take action."
The voice drifted to him from among the group but he could not figure from who it had come. Again but visibly this time he nodded and moved over to the window.
"I can understand and respect that command my lords. However again I must tell you that the original Mother and Father are moving amongst us and their intent is more than spectators this time."
A small laugh echoed through the room and one hooded figure rose.
"How exactly do you of all beings expect us to act and respond when you come to us speaking of the gods who have not been seen since the ending of the Great War. Bring us your proof, bring us your evidence! Now councilor until that has been accomplished you know where we stand as do all of us. We heed your wise words but,"
The man nodded his head slightly not wanting the figure to continue. He moved to his chair at the head of the table and swept it back a little harder than he intended to then took his seat. The hooded figure nodded knowing his point had been received.
"Gentlemen and ladies of the Higher Council I understand your need for proof and evidence of the statements I have giving you, but you must understand that these are our gods to give you proof of their passing would require the time I fear we do not have, their must be some comprise that we may reach. All I ask is for the correct preparations to be taken. This is has become our world as much as theirs I do not wish to see them return to take from us our freedom."
Murmurs rolled through the council some in agreement others in shock at his words. Another figure rose but this one drew a gasp from all around him. they had not heard this high councilor speak in centuries of being on the board. He turned to face the young and vibrant Low Councilor.
"How and why do you presume to know the intent of the Gods?, They are our Gods are they not? You're excitement of their return brings you dangerously close to committing the sacred sin."
the young man leaped from his chair and moved to kneel before this High Councilor.
"I beg your pardon, it is not that I presume it is merely that after their leaving and disappearance for so long I am worried and wherry of their intent should they choose to return now. Does any of us truly wish to see the old ways returned, if that be their intent!?"
"But Low Councilor that is just it until their intent is made known to us by them we can prepare ourselves in neither direction."
"All I ask is that you give me the chance to prepare in both ways."
The High Councilor dropped his hand upon the Low Councilor's shoulder bringing a startled gasp from some but an approved nod from the rest.
"We understand your intent more so than you yourself, but to prepare in both directions would tax us in a way that seems quite unnecessary as of the moment. So in light of that we shall fund your research as to their purpose but, we will require of you tasks and other such tokens to the benefit of all those around us so that at least you shall still continue to contribute to your community and to the benefit of this society."
All hoods within the room nodded their agreement at the words of this wise High Councilor and rose in unison. The Low Councilor lowered his head until all had departed sept the one who had spoken to him directly. He rose and hugged the man tightly.
"It is always good to see you father and your words of wisdom always do me justice."
"Well you are my child following in my steps, how can I not guide you even if it only be a little at a time. I thank you though for heeding the words of this old man."
His shook his head smiled.
"You have yet to steer me wrong father and in all I do you have always been supportive."
The man nodded then turned his head toward the window for a moment.
"Tell me child how is mother?"
"She does well but at night I can tell she misses your company as do I father."
"Well son soon the changes that I set into motion so long ago shall be complete and no High or Low councilor shall have to separate themselves from their family anymore, it is merely the transition that worries me know."
His son nodded understanding completely then hugged his father once more and moved over to the table placing a note down upon it he drawn from his pocket.
"Mother thought her words even if they were not spoken would still do you well."
The High Councilor moved over and retrieved the letter slipping it into his cloak.
"Tell her I continue to love her as much and more as when they day I first said I do."
His son nodded then moved off through the double doors leaving the High Councilor to read the letter and ponder his thoughts in peace.
